PFOS/PFOA Well Inventory
Hana as part of its JV (Hana-Bay West 8(a) JV) assessed off-base PFAS impacts to drinking water at military installations across the US. Hana has completed comprehensive research including historical research, hydrogeologic evaluations, and well research within surrounding areas of the installations. Well research included evaluation of historical maps of the areas, coordination with local municipalities and state agencies, and utilizing online databases. All the well information was compiled into a database linked to GIS database for the ability of pulling up well information and locations on a map in real time. This allowed for the data to be manipulated for the identification of wells within a target area with the ability to export well information for that area. This project also included Hana support to reach out to homeowners that have drinking water wells within the target areas. This included mailings, phone correspondence, and in person visits. Once the property owner granted access the wells were sampled. If the concentrations of PFAS in the well exceeded the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Lifetime Health Advisory Level, Hana coordinated the delivery of bottled water until a more permanent option became available to mitigate the potential risk to residents from exposure to PFAS.
