Media Nike Site Monitoring Well Abandonment

Hana was contracted to abandon all existing monitoring wells (MWs) at the former Media Nike Missile Battery PH – 75/78 Control Area under the authority of the Defense Environmental Restoration Program for Formerly Used Defense Sites (DERP-FUDS). The site was acquired by the DoD in 1954 to develop a missile defense system to protect Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (PA) during the Cold War Era. The original site was 59.9 acres with 43 acres being the Launch Area and 14.9 acres being the control area. The control area was used for radar tracking and communications until 1964 and was the site under investigation .
