Groundwater Investigation and Remediation at Former Manassas Air Force Communication Facility

Hana has been involved since 2013 with multiple environmental investigation and restoration activities for the 50-acre Former Manassas Air Force Communication Facility (MAFCF) in accordance with the Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) Defense Environmental Restoration Program (DERP) and CERCLA. Hana is currently providing remedial design (RD) and remedial action (RA) to clean up groundwater impacted by Chlorinated Volatile Organic Compounds in complex groundwater flow regime consisting of saprolite and fractured igneous/metamorphic rock. The scope of service includes verification of conceptual site model, parameter optimization study for two in situ technologies (in situ chemical treatment and in situ enhanced bioremediation) approved in the Decision Document (DD), development of plans and specifications, general provisions, and special requirements necessary to translate and implement the remedy, and long-term groundwater monitoring. Hana utilized several high-resolution site characterization techniques to characterize the site, including downhole geophysics and packer testing of fracture zones. Hana was also the lead the development of the Feasibility Study (FS), Proposed Plan (PP), and DD for this project site under a separate contract.
