Former Nansemond Ordnance Depot GE Pond Sediment Removal

Hana performed a Sediment Removal for the former GE Pond associated with Area of Concern (AOC) 4 at the Former Nansemond Ordnance Depot (FNOD) Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS). Approximately, 2,132 yards (1,745 tons) of stabilized sediment was disposed of off-site during the initial removal activities in December 2021. Based on the results of sediment sampling, an additional 260 cubic yards (267 tons) of sediment was removed during a second mobilization in 2022. Final confirmation sampling indicated the remaining sediment was suitable for on-site re-use. Site work included pond dewatering and control of precipitation run-on. Hana was awarded the USEPA Region 3 Excellence in Site Reuse Award in September 2023 for our work at this site.
