Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AIWW) Vibracore Investigation

Hana completed a sediment sampling and analysis project across the 161-mile segment of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AIWW) under USACE Savannah District’s jurisdiction. The project included collection of sediment samples via vibracore from 34 locations for physical and chemical analysis. These 34 locations were selected by USACE based on historical shoaling events and a review of recent hydrographic surveys. Several reaches of the AIWW are being considered for upcoming maintenance dredging and possible beneficial reuse projects. Additional information regarding sediment characteristics was needed to determine the suitability of utilizing sediments from certain reaches of the AIWW for beneficial use.
