Senior Scientist and Risk Assessor Cliff Opdyke, Ph.D, discusses Risk Assessment at Hana Engineers and Consultants’ office in North Charleston (Hana/Photo)
Hana Senior Scientist and Risk Assessor Cliff Opdyke, Ph.D, provided a Lunch and Learn training session recently at the company’s office on Rivers Avenue in North Charleston, S.C.

Cliff shows a vintage Environmental Protection Agency Risk Assessment Manual during the Lunch and Learn.
Cliff presented an overview of the Superfund program, including how Risk Assessments (RA) provide a critical component in the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) process in conducting environmental remediation for contaminated sites.
By analyzing data, Risk Assessors give project managers vital information about how to focus resources to prevent exposure to people, animals, and the environment.
Hana’s environmental, geological, administrative, marketing, and proposal teams located in the Charleston office heard Cliff recount real-world stories from project sites that he had personally worked on over decades as an environmental scientist and risk assessor.
Cliff recently joined Hana with more than 30 years of experience, primarily in the federal sector, most recently serving as RA Team Leader for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Baltimore District.
Cliff, who is based in the Atlanta area, was visiting Hana’s South Carolina office along with Environmental Project Manager Susie Herbert. After the RA Lunch and Learn, the Hana Team enjoyed an evening in the South Carolina Lowcountry overlooking Noisette Creek at Holy City Brewing in North Charleston with friends, family, and co-workers.
