The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is executing environmental dredging and material management of DNAPL-impacted sediments at the Atlantic Wood Industries Superfund Site located on the southern branch of the Elizabeth River in Portsmouth, Virginia. A total of approximately 330,000 cubic yards of sediments are anticipated to be mechanically dredged, amended with Portland cement, and placed at the project site. Other activities associated with this project include land reclamation, surcharge program, installation of 425,000 linear feet of prefabricated vertical drains (PVDs), and geotechnical engineering instrumentation. Hana is currently supporting EA Engineering (project designer), EPA, and USACE with geotechnical engineering and quality assurance during the construction phase.
